This piece was inspired by the timber it is mounted on, which is a piece of Oak that was the back of the seat of an old school desk, at which a lot of us once sat.

I qualified as a Toolmaker and have worked in the sheet metal industry for over 20 years. Moving into the area of product design enabled me to expand my metalworking skills even further. For many years I have been creating one-off pieces of furniture, children’s toys and trophies on a commission basis. Images of some of these pieces can be seen on my website www.martinraeside.com. In 2005 I was delighted to receive a commission from Hewlett Packard for the design and manufacture of a water-feature for an exhibition in Birmingham. More recently I developed a range of copper candle holders and wall lights which were available in the Expose Yourself Gallery in Dun Laoghaire.
I have now turned my attention to art, and here have found my true calling. The media I mainly work with is copper, steel and timber and I have an interesting selection of work available.
I am a member of the Crafts Council of Ireland and also the Irish Craft Association.
